Accustomed to a postseason financial bonus, Hank Bauer earned that additional stipend in 10 of his first 11 full seasons and was none too shy to bark, “Don’t mess with my money” to any non-hustling teammates. Autographed by both Bauer and Mickey Mantle, this uncracked bat was wielded by Bauer (and possibly by Mantle, as well) during the 1959 season. The Hillerich & Bradsby “S2” block-letter model and shows excellent use. Both Bauer and Mantle have signed the barrel in blue marker. Full photo LOAs from PSA/DNA and JSA. More on our website.
The Hillerich & Bradsby “S2” (32.4-oz/35”) block-letter (“H BAUER”) weapon shows excellent game use with ball impressions and bat-rack marks throughout. The handle has been scored to enhance the grip. Just atop the barrel stampings, Bauer has signed in blue marker (“9-10” strength) and inscribed “To Barry – Mickey never used his own bat. Best Wishes.” This personalization was intended for collector Barry Halper. Below the barrel stampings, Mantle’s signature projects (“7-8”) strength and clarity. A full photo LOA from John Taube, PSA/DNA attests to the bat’s authenticity, while a full photo LOA from JSA confirms the authenticity of the autographs.
Accompanying is a framed 8x10 black-and-white photo signed by Mantle in blue marker (“10” strength; full LOA from JSA). Mantle is pictured in his Yankees road apparel holding one of Bauer’s bats.
