Time to go to the mattresses for a bidding war. Offered is a 2/2/73 check signed by Joe Bonanno (d.2002). Believed to be the basis for the “Vito Corleone” character from Mario Puzo’s “The Godfather” novel Bonanno reportedly headed a New York Mafia family started in the early 1930s after a four year gang war involving the most infamous figures in organized crime history. Made payable to “Cash” in the amount of $500.00 the check bears a stylish (“9”) quality signature and a memo box filled out as “For J.B. Personal” (“9”). Presenting in solid (VG-EX) condition the highly appealing check is drawn of “The Arizona Bank” and features a colorful Native American graphic at left and a compliment of bank stamps on the reverse.
